Abstract

Agronomic Characteristics and Efficiency Of Arabic Gum Urea-Biochar Granul
Fertilizer On Red Onion Plant (Allium Ascalonicum L.) Excessive application of urea
fertilizer to shallots will have a negative impact on the environment and environmental
pollution due to the large amount of N lost from the soil due to the rapid dissolution of urea,
but not all of it is immediately absorbed by the plants. Loss of fertilizer nitrogen from the
soil occurs through the leaching process. The method to increase the effectiveness of
fertilizer use is to modify the fertilizer so that slow release fertilizer is formed. The use of
biochar as an organic material that is environmentally friendly as a carrier for slow-release
urea fertilizer is very potential because it is easy to obtain and easy to manufacture. Biochar
is a carbon-rich product obtained by heating biomass under low or oxygen-free conditions.
The study was conducted in the greenhouse of UPT Plant Pest and Disease Control Center
in Celuk Sukawati Gianyar Village, and in the Laboratory of Soil and Environmental
Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, arranged in a Completely
Randomized Design with a single factor consisting of 9 treatments and repeated 3 times. The
treatments were U0B0 (control), U1B0 (with urea without biochar), U0B1 (with biochar
without urea), S35 (35% biochar-coated granules), S30 (30% biochar-coated granules), S25
(25% biochar-coated granules), M35 (35% biochar matrix granules), M30 (30% biochar
matrix granules), and M25 (25% biochar matrix granules). The results showed that plant
height showed the highest value in the M25 treatment and the highest RAE value was found
in the M25 treatment, namely 374%, indicating a higher value compared to the recommended
standard fertilization treatment (U1B0). Further research is needed regarding the
formulation of the composition for making arabic-gum coated granule fertilizer.
